Ellery is 6!

Once again I'm behind on updating and there are still a lot of pictures on Zach's camera I have yet to import.  With that said, I hope you enjoy a post full of random thoughts and snapshots.

First off, my baby girl is 6!  She is saying things like "I'm concerned for that lemur.  He should be careful of predators."  She relies on eenie-meenie-miney-mo to answer just about everything. (which can get really annoying when we're in a hurry)  She cares for others and the planet which pleases me to no end.  For example she said she wants to have an Earth party when she turns 7.  I asked her what that was and she said she'd like to get everyone a trash picker-upper and pick up trash on Mt Helix.  A few days later she asked if she could invite homeless people to her party too.  She will get on me if I let the car idle while we're waiting.  Tisk tisk if I let the water run for 1 second longer than I need it.  And she'll alert me if the neighbors are watering their yard in the middle of the day.  (CA could really use more Ellery's)  We say it all of the time;  they don't come much sweeter than her.  I think the mosquitos would agree... She woke up with a few rather large "blood fly" bites and said while scratching, "well bugs have to eat too!"

DPR's newest employee...

We were invited to DPR's 25th anniversary celebration in Napa.  Shareholders from all over the US came out, around 350 people including spouses.  What a fun filled vacation!  DPR is so good to their people.  They spoiled us!  It's was nice to see that everyone's hard work doesn't go unnoticed.  They put us up at the beautiful Silverado Resort...

DPR's Doug, Peter & Ron (and Jim Collins - an amazing author and speaker!)...

Vineyards as far as the eye can see...

Before we went to Napa, we stayed a couple days in Sausalito to be with my Aunt Diana.  I believe she had just finished her 6th round of chemo.  She is inspiring for so many reasons.  I said to her  "damn, you makes this disease look good!"  I mean look at her charging up a mountain...

Our enchanted forest hike in Tennessee Valley...

My dad and Mary joined us which made for a lovely lil get together...

We went down to Cavallo Point for dinner...

I asked my tech-challenged dad if he could take our picture and this is what I found on my camera.  I laughed so hard I nearly peed my pants...

Let's try that again...

Now she's just showing off...

You go girl...

Old army bunkers...

A huge thank you to my mom for watching the kids all week!

I asked the kids if they'd like a party at home or a trip to the happiest place on earth.  Disneyland it was!  Well, California Adventure.  Anna & Elsa moved over and where they go, we shall follow!...

Beck was tall enough this time for the Cars ride.  He loved it 'til the race started.  Then he

Nice seats Seidl's!  Such a fun night with these guys...

Rian celebrated her 7th birthday party at the ice arena.  It was a family affair with only a few falls...

Beck's not too sure about being on the ice but Ellery loves it!  We just signed her up for lessons.  She starts next week!...

Sparrow's walk-a-thon was a huge success.  Thank you again to all of those that donated...

Snuggle time...

Guess finger knitting at school is paying off!  Ellery has been sewing lavender sachet's like a pro...

Jordan's 8th grade graduation.  Off to high school?  How is this possible?...

Her school celebrated down in Mission Bay.  Looks like the kids found the cupcakes...

Tug-of-war over Jude...

We (and by we, I mean the kids and I) had been talking about possibly getting a bunny ever since Ms Helga brought hers into the classroom.  Turns out our friends in San Juan Capistrano had a few pregnant rabbits who's babies needed homes.  It gave Zach just enough time to build a bunny enclosure.  He just whipped this awesome thing together!  I was impressed...

I read that they get pretty lonely by themselves so it's be best to get 2 :)  We went up to meet and pick out our future pets.  Ellery picked out a lionhead and named her Easter Funny Bunny...

Beck picked out the charcoal mini lop and named him Black Thorn.  So tiny his eyes aren't even open yet.  (we're almost positive it's a girl but Beck insists we call her a him)...

We went up to visit our buns again and made a day of it.  Here's Easter!...

And a bigger Black Thorn Woody.  Ellery's bunny had a first, middle and last name so Beck added Woody to the end of his.  Silly boy...

San Juan Capistrano has the cutest downtown area complete with a petting zoo.  Here's Sydney (who also got 2 bunnies) and E&B playing in the corn...

And over to Mark's, who's daughter has the bunny business.  Their home and property are jaw dropping.  Here's Mark on his playground.  Ellery was swinging and said "we're the only ones at this park mommy!"  That's because this isn't a park honey!...

Welcome to your new home!...

Speaking of Mark, he came down and the 5 of us went out to dinner and a comedy show...

And back on the ice for these two...

Can't remember if I already posted this pic.  We had gone out to Ramona to the Oasis Camel Dairy Farm.  There's a first time for everything!...

One downside of the booster seat; nowhere to rest your head...

Bennett's t-ball game...

Look at that hit!  He did awesome!...

Beck says (too loudly) "Look mom!  Santa!!"...

Slimy fun...

Got this text from my gals up north.  Look who they ran into in Auburn.  Some of my most favorite people...

Suspension bridge in Mission Hills.  See Ellery's hands?  That's when you know she's pleased or excited.  She bends her elbows and drops her hands down.  If you look for it, you'll see it in other pics...

Morning with Mary in the bunny viewing area.  She convinced me we needed bean bags for the spectators...

Poor Dots...

Fiesta del Sol was right outside of Dave & Kathy's Sola Beach condo.  How could we not go?...

Parent appreciation day...

Ellery's school year ended with a Fly Away ceremony celebrating those who were "flying off" to first grade and those who are staying "in the nest".  (hence the nest necklace)  She will be staying in the nest for one more year as Waldorf education prefers 2 years of kindergarten.  They look at first grade readiness not on academic ability but whether they are physically, emotionally and socially ready.  I knew this going into Waldorf but since the cut-off for moving up is in May (Ellery's birthday month) the choice was really Zach and I's.  Her teacher thought she'd do fine in 1st grade but when I asked her what she would do if it were her daughter, said she'd give her another year.  I couldn't help but wonder if we were making the right decision but every parent and educator I spoke with said it will only do harm to push them forward, never to keep them back.  Ms Helga ended our meeting with "Waldorf education gives children the gift of time."  Done.  We are happy and most importantly, Ellery is too...

Besties...

School's out for summer!!...

This guy swam to shore right in front of us and looked completely exhausted.  He stayed for quite a while and wasn't swimming back out to sea.  We called the Marine Mammal Rescue Center and they said this has been happening more and more since the ocean temps are rising and their food supply is moving to deeper parts.  Poor thing.  SeaWorld ended up coming out to rescue him.  I better not see him in the sea lion and otter show next year.  Just kidding.  Sort of...

Beck's best sea lion impression...

Ellery all ready for her recital...

Beck, giving sissy flowers after the show...

And that's a wrap!
